Christopher Nolan’s upcoming film: Adaptation of Homer's Greek epic ‘The Odyssey’

Washington: The wait is finally over for Christopher Nolan fans. Universal Studios announced on Monday that the acclaimed director will adapt Homer's epic poem The Odyssey for his next project, set to release on July 17, 2026. The film, described as a "mythic action epic," will feature an impressive ensemble cast, including Matt Damon, Tom Holland, Zendaya, Robert Pattinson, Lupita Nyong'o, Anne Hathaway, and Charlize Theron.
As per The Hollywood Reporter, Universal in a statement shared, "Christopher Nolan's next film The Odyssey is a mythic action epic shot across the world using brand-new IMAX film technology." This also marks the first time Homer's foundational tale will be brought to IMAX screens.
Known for his work in historical dramas and science fiction, including films like Oppenheimer, Inception, and Interstellar, Nolan's latest project marks a shift in direction. The Odyssey is based on the ancient Greek myth, following the hero Odysseus as he battles gods, monsters, and various trials while attempting to return home after the Trojan War.
This isn’t the first time The Odyssey has been adapted for the screen. Previous versions include the 1954 film Ulysses, starring Kirk Douglas, and the Coen brothers' O Brother, Where Art Thou? (2000), which loosely drew inspiration from the epic. Nolan’s version is expected to bring his distinctive style, blending realism and visually stunning storytelling, to the legendary tale.
The announcement comes on the heels of a remarkable year for Nolan. His film Oppenheimer earned him Oscars for Best Picture and Best Director, and he was recently knighted by King Charles, further solidifying his place in cinematic history.
