‘It felt like a big joke’: Bhavana denies rumours of contesting Kerala assembly polls

For the past few days, social media has been rife with speculation that actor Bhavana would contest the upcoming Kerala Assembly elections. The rumour, which was also picked up by some online media outlets, claimed that she would enter the fray as a CPM candidate. However, there had been no official confirmation of this claim.

Bhavana has now put the speculation to rest, describing the reports as entirely false. Speaking to Club FM ahead of the release of her new film Anomie, the actor said she had no idea how such a story emerged and stressed that it had no basis whatsoever.

“I don’t even know where it came from. There is absolutely no truth in it,” Bhavana said. “When I saw the news, I just laughed. It felt like a big joke.” She added that she had posted a story clarifying that it was fake news before arriving for the interview, bringing an end to the circulating rumours.

The clarification came in response to a question from RJ Aakash, who asked whether audiences could expect to see Bhavana contesting elections in the future, referring to the rumour he had heard.

Bhavana reiterated that the claim was baseless and said she herself was surprised when she came across it. “Honestly, I found it funny. I don’t even know how such a story was created,” she said. Actor Shebin Benson, who was present at the interview and stars alongside Bhavana in Anomie, also said that the team had laughed when they saw the report.

Bhavana plays Sara, a forensic analyst with significant emotional depth. The teaser, released earlier with the caption “Reintroducing Bhavana”, hinted at a fresh phase in her career. The actor has also revealed that the film includes subtle sci-fi elements. Veteran actor Rahman appears in a key role in the film.
