After Minnal Murali and Detective Ujjwalan, zombie movie Jambi joins the Weekend Cinematic Universe

Kochi: Weekend Blockbusters, led by Sophia Paul, has announced the title of the third film in its Weekend Cinematic Universe. Following the success of Minnal Murali and the upcoming Detective Ujjwalan, the latest addition to the franchise has been titled Jambi. Directed by debutant George Kora, the film is set to be Malayalam cinema’s first venture into the zombie genre. The tagline for the movie reads: The Undead Have a Story to Tell.

The screenplay for Jambi has been penned by Nandu Manoj, Harikrishnan K.R., and director George Kora. A motion poster revealing the title has been released, creating excitement among fans. The film is slated to commence shooting next year and is scheduled for release in 2026.  

Meanwhile, the second instalment of the Weekend Cinematic Universe, Detective Ujjwalan, will hit theatres next year. Starring Dhyan Sreenivasan, the film has been co-written and directed by newcomers Indraneel GK and Rahul G.  

The Weekend Cinematic Universe began with the much-acclaimed superhero film Minnal Murali, starring Tovino Thomas and directed by Basil Joseph. The franchise continues to expand with innovative storylines and genres, promising to redefine Malayalam cinema.
