Tukaram Mundhe joke to Amitabh-Rekha reference: Samay Raina’s latest Latent episode goes viral

Comedian Samay Raina turned the ongoing buzz around Maharashtra FDA Commissioner Tukaram Mundhe into a joke about the food being served at Habitat during the latest episode of India’s Got Latent Season 2.

The September 18 episode featured Nawazuddin Siddiqui, Mukesh Chhabra and Bhuvan Bam on the show, giving Raina plenty of material for his trademark unfiltered humour. From a joke about food inspections to a reference involving Amitabh Bachchan and Rekha, the episode had several moments that stood out.

Samay Raina brings Tukaram Mundhe into Habitat food joke

The Tukaram Mundhe reference came after a magician appeared as a contestant on the show.

After performing, the contestant received marks from the judges. However, his score did not match the marks required to win the ₹1 lakh prize.

As the contestant was left without the prize, Raina told him he would not leave empty-handed. He offered him a galouti kebab before turning the moment into a joke about the food at Habitat.

Raina said the food had not been going particularly well earlier, but was now getting better because of the “fear of Tukaram Mundhe.”

The joke referred to the Maharashtra FDA commissioner, whose department has been carrying out an intensive food-safety inspection drive across the state.

Mundhe has recently been in the spotlight after the Maharashtra Food and Drug Administration took action against several food establishments over safety and hygiene violations. The FDA said it conducted more than 12,000 inspections in around 100 days, with over 5,200 improvement notices issued and 603 licences suspended.

The timing of Raina’s joke made the reference particularly relevant: the comedian was talking about food at the very venue associated with India’s Got Latent while invoking the official who has become closely associated with Maharashtra’s recent food-safety crackdown.

Bhuvan Bam makes Amitabh Bachchan-Rekha reference

The episode also produced a Bollywood-focused joke involving Amitabh Bachchan and Rekha.

A contestant named Prateek Bhardwaj performed an imitation of Amitabh Bachchan on stage. After watching the performance, Bhuvan Bam made a wordplay involving Rekha while commenting on the contestant’s talent.

The reference immediately drew a reaction from the panel.

Casting director Mukesh Chhabra jokingly warned Bhuvan, reminding him that his film career had only just begun. Bhuvan responded with another playful remark, keeping the exchange firmly in the comic territory.

The Amitabh-Rekha reference tapped into one of Bollywood’s most widely discussed on-screen associations. The two actors worked together in several films, including Silsila and Muqaddar Ka Sikandar, and their equation has remained a subject of public fascination over the years.

Samay Raina roasts Mukesh Chhabra over his casting

Mukesh Chhabra was also on the receiving end of Raina’s jokes throughout the episode.

Raina took aim at Chhabra’s casting work, including his involvement with Dhurandhar. The comedian turned the title into a wordplay-based joke about the film’s casting, leaving the panel and audience laughing.

The exchange then moved into more risqué casting-room humour, with Chhabra giving Raina jokes of his own rather than simply taking the roast.

The back-and-forth added to the episode’s central theme: familiar Bollywood faces being put on the spot by Raina’s deliberately unpredictable style.

Nawazuddin Siddiqui joins Samay Raina’s latest episode

Nawazuddin Siddiqui was another major guest on the latest episode of India’s Got Latent.

Raina welcomed the actor before quickly turning the interaction into a joke. Siddiqui also joined the banter as the episode moved between celebrity roasts and contestant performances.
