On the day of the vrat, devotees should wake up early, take a bath, and wear clean clothes.

A square-shaped mandala can then be prepared at the place of worship using turmeric and other auspicious materials.

The idols or images of the Saptarishis are placed on the mandala, followed by sprinkling of Ganga water around the area.

The seven sages are worshipped with incense, lamps, sandalwood paste, flowers and offerings.

Devotees also offer arghya while reciting the prescribed mantra dedicated to the Saptarishis.

The traditional vrat also involves consuming naturally grown, uncultivated vegetables and greens, known as akrishta produce.

Devotees observing the fast are advised to maintain celibacy and follow a disciplined routine throughout the day.

According to religious beliefs, observing Rishi Panchami with devotion helps devotees seek forgiveness for inadvertent mistakes and sins.

The day is also associated with spiritual purification and seeking the blessings of the Saptarishis.
