How to remove outdated Google search results, cached pages and images

Personal information such as phone numbers, email addresses and home addresses can sometimes appear in Google Search results, creating privacy risks. Google offers several tools that allow users to monitor, report and request the removal of sensitive personal information from search results.
Google has outlined a range of tools that can help users remove sensitive personal information from Google Search results and improve their online privacy. While Google cannot always remove information from the original website where it is hosted, users can request that certain details no longer appear in search listings.
How to check if your information appears in Google Search
Google’s “Results About You” feature allows users to monitor whether personal details appear in search results. After signing in to a Google account, users can enter information such as phone numbers, email addresses and home addresses for monitoring.
Google can then send alerts through email or the Google app when matching information is detected in search results. Users can review reports and track any removal requests through the same dashboard.

How to remove search results directly
Google now allows users to request removals directly from search results. By selecting the three-dot menu next to a search result, users can choose the “Remove result” option and specify the reason for removal.
Common reasons include the presence of personal information, outdated content or material that may violate Google’s policies.
Sensitive information eligible for removal
Google accepts removal requests for various types of sensitive content, including:
- Government identification numbers
- Bank account details
- Credit card information
- Login credentials and passwords
- Personal signatures
- Medical records
- Explicit content linked to an individual
- Non-consensual deepfake explicit content
Users can submit these requests through Google’s dedicated support pages by providing URLs and supporting details.
Contacting website owners remains important
Removing a result from Google Search does not automatically remove the information from the internet. If personal information remains published on a website, users may need to contact the website owner or administrator and request that the content be deleted or updated.
Google may also ask whether an attempt was made to contact the website before processing certain requests.
Removing outdated content and images
When information has already been removed from a website but still appears in Google Search, users can use Google’s “Remove Outdated Content” tool. The tool helps remove cached versions of webpages and outdated search listings.
Similarly, images that no longer exist on websites but continue appearing in Google Images can also be reported for removal through Google's image removal process.
Reporting illegal content
Google maintains separate reporting systems for content involving legal violations. These include intellectual property infringement, child sexual abuse material and other illegal content categories.
Such reports are handled through dedicated legal removal channels rather than standard privacy requests.
What happens after a removal request?
After a request is submitted, Google sends a confirmation email and reviews the information. Additional details may be requested before a final decision is made.
Google notes that approval is not guaranteed, as each request is evaluated by balancing privacy concerns with information that may be considered publicly relevant or useful.
Importantly, removing content from Google Search only affects search visibility. The original information may remain online unless it is also removed from the source website. As a result, complete removal often requires a combination of Google requests, website updates and broader privacy management efforts.
