Who is eligible?
To be eligible for Finnish permanent residency, you must meet the following conditions:
Residency requirement: You must have lived in Finland for at least 4 years with a continuous residence permit (A permit). From January 2026, this requirement will increase to 6 years
Minimum Stay: You must have resided in Finland for at least 2 years during the 4-year (or upcoming 6-year) period. All travel abroad must be reported when applying.
Additional Criteria (to qualify after 4 years):
- A minimum annual income of €40,000 (approx. ₹41,35,800).
- A master’s or postgraduate degree recognised in Finland plus at least 2 years of work experience.
- High proficiency in Finnish or Swedish (usually level C1) plus at least 3 years of work experience.
Permit Category: Applicants who entered Finland on a study visa or any other non-qualifying visa must switch to a different A permit category before applying.
Application Process: Applications must be submitted within Finland. If your previous A permit expired, you must provide a valid reason, such as serious illness, for applying late.
Clean Record: A clean criminal record is mandatory.

- After submission, visit the Finnish Immigration Service or a VFS Global Application Centre to provide biometric data and verify your identity.
