Hydel tourism centers see record profit surge in Kerala

Kannur: The Kerala Hydel Tourism Center (KHTC) has reported considerable earnings by launching boat services at Kerala State Electricity Board (KSEB) dams, offering tourists breathtaking views. 

Managed by KSEB, the Centre recorded a profit of Rs 8.63 crore in 2022-2023, marking a turnaround from a loss of Rs 1.64 crore in the previous financial year. The revenue further increased to Rs 7.97 crore in 2023-2024. 

Currently, KHTC operates 13 centres across various locations, including Kakkayam Dam, Adyanpara in Malappuram, Idukki Dam, Munnar Hydel Park, Munnar Ecopoint, Chenkulam Dam, Anayirangal Dam, Kundala Dam, Sun Moon Valley Mattupetty, and Banasura Sagar Dam. Among these, Banasura in Wayanad stands out as the highest revenue earner.

Plans are underway to introduce hydroelectric tourism at Vadakkepuzha in Idukki district. The centres have become popular destinations for tourists seeking serene views and enriching experiences amidst Kerala's natural beauty.
