With the 2024 United States Presidential elections just a month away... history is already being made. If President Donald Trump wins, and if VP Kamala Harris wins, both will etch their names in the annals of American and global politics.

As the US presidential race approaches its final stretch, the world watches in anticipation. The outcome, no matter who emerges victorious, promises to break new ground and reshape the political landscape. Trump and Harris stand at the forefront, each offering the potential to make historic milestones.

If Donald Trump Wins...

Donald Trump, the 45th president, is vying for a return to the White House, four years after losing the 2020 election. A win would make him only the second president in US history to serve two non-consecutive terms, following in the footsteps of Grover Cleveland, who held office in the late 19th century. Cleveland's two-term presidency -- spanning from 1885-1889 and again from 1893-1897 -- was an anomaly in American politics, and Trump would revive this rare occurrence over a century later.

Beyond the distinction of serving non-consecutive terms, Trump's return would symbolize an extraordinary political comeback. Having lost re-election in 2020, facing multiple legal challenges, and enduring a turbulent post-presidency, a victory in 2024 would solidify his resilience and political influence. He would lead the Republican Party and his core supporters in defying the odds and reclaiming the highest office in the US.

Such a win would also carry immense symbolic value. In an era of political division, Trump would remain a polarizing figure both domestically and internationally, further shaping the global perception of American politics. His victory could reinforce a populist wave across different regions, signaling that political establishments can still be challenged, even by a figure once considered a political outsider.

If Kamala Harris Wins...

On the other side of the ballot, Kamala Harris's victory would carry historic significance of a different magnitude. Having already made history in 2021 as the first female, Indian American, and South Asian Vice President of the United States, Harris is positioned to shatter another glass ceiling. A win would make her the first woman to ever serve as President of the United States, a milestone Hillary Clinton came close to achieving in 2016, but fell short.

In doing what Clinton could not, Harris would achieve a breakthrough not just for women in the US, but for women and minority leaders worldwide. She would become a global symbol of progress, representing not only gender equality but also the growing political influence of people of colour.

As a child of Indian and Jamaican immigrants, her ascension to the presidency would resonate deeply with marginalized communities around the world, showing that leadership can be truly representative of diversity.

Harris's potential presidency would also reflect the changing demographics and values of the United States, a nation increasingly shaped by multiculturalism and the push for greater social justice.

The significance of her victory would go beyond politics -- it would be seen as a triumph of inclusion and opportunity in a country with a long history of racial and gender inequality.

History Already Made

Regardless of the outcome, the 2024 presidential election will be remembered for its potential to alter the course of history. Trump's quest to return to power and Harris's bid to become the first female president mark this election as a watershed moment.

For Trump, a win would reinforce his status as a resilient figure capable of defying political norms and reclaiming power. For Harris, a victory would represent the culmination of a long struggle for women and minorities in the US to ascend to the highest office, achieving what many -- including Hillary Clinton -- had previously attempted but not realized.

As the world watches the countdown to election day, the story is already being written, one that will be remembered for its capacity to break barriers, whether through Trump's unprecedented comeback or Harris's groundbreaking ascent. Both paths lead to a new chapter in history.
