North Andhra's aviation services to get a lift with Bhogapuram Airport

North Andhra Pradesh is set for a major aviation milestone as Prime Minister Narendra Modi will dedicate the Bhogapuram International Airport to the nation on August 1, fulfilling a long-awaited aspiration for the region. Built over 2,203 acres at a cost of Rs 4,592 crore, the airport is expected to boost aviation connectivity, tourism, trade and investment. The facility features a 3,800-metre Code-E runway capable of handling wide-body aircraft, along with a cargo terminal, advanced air traffic control (ATC) systems, solar power infrastructure and zero-liquid-discharge facilities. In its first phase, the airport is designed to handle 60 lakh passengers annually, with plans to expand capacity to 4 crore passengers a year. TDP State Party President and MLA Palla Srinivasarao said Bhogapuram's strategic location makes it ideal for North Andhra, adding that future Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul (MRO) facilities and an aviation university are also planned. Officials said the airport will serve as a gateway for regional economic growth and development.
