Mathrubhumi Books publishes MN Karassery’s 'Basheerinte Poonkavanam'

Kozhikode: Mathrubhumi Books published 'Basheerinte Poonkavanam', a collection featuring articles penned by MN Karassery, well-known orator and civil rights activist who shared a close bond with Vaikom Muhammad Basheer.
The book offers insights into Basheer's personality and literary works, presented in Karassery's straightforward style of writing. The book coincides with the thirtieth death anniversary of Basheer as it aims to bring his legacy closer to readers.
The anniversary celebrations also saw multiple literary events all across Kerala, particularly in Kozhikode, Kerala’s UNESCO recognized literary city. On July 5, Basheer's residence 'Vylalil' in Beypore witnessed a huge gathering as people from far and wide gathered to commemorate the legendary author’s enduring spirit.
The highlight of the thirtieth anniversary is the completion of the long-awaited Basheer memorial, 'Akasamittayi'. This dream project on BC Road, Kozhikode materialised due to the continuous efforts of Minister PA Mohammed Riyas, who is also the local MLA. Scheduled to open to visitors in the coming months, the Basheer Memorial was named 'Akasamittayi', inspired by Basheer's work 'Premalekhanam', where the name symbolises unity beyond caste and religion. In the work, when Kesavan Nair, a Hindu, and Saramma, a Christian, fell in love and got married, there was a big problem as to what to name the child born to them. When the dispute escalated, the child was named 'Akasamittayi' irrespective of caste and religion.
The publication of Karassery’s book that commemorates the literary stalwart becomes the cherry on top to the dessert of events celebrating Basheer.
