Senior academic fellowships and post-doctoral fellowships at ICHR

Indian Council of Historical Research (ICHR) has invited applications for Senior Academic Fellowship (S.A.F.) & Post-Doctoral Fellowship (PDF) for 2025-26.

The Fellowship shall be a whole-time engagement for research work and cannot be combined with any other whole-time or part-time work. Terms and Conditions are available in the ICHR Research Funding Rules booklet, available at www.ichr.ac.in

The period of the Fellowships shall be 2 years, extendable up to a maximum of one more year under special circumstances without any financial commitment.

Senior Academic Fellowship: The value of Senior Academic Fellowship is Rs. 44,000/- per month with a contingency grant of Rs. 44,000/- per annum for a period of two years.

The maximum number of Senior Academic Fellowship available for the year 2025-2026 are 10, applying the usual reservation for SC, ST& PWD.

Eligibility for SAF: Applicant should be at least 50 years of age and should have a minimum teaching/research experience of 15 years. Applicant should have minimum 10 Research articles in peer reviewed/acclaimed journals. Out of these, the applicants need to send 5 of his/her best articles along with application. Applicant should have at least one standard book/experience of successfully completing two research projects.

Post-Doctoral Fellowship (PDF): The value of Post-Doctoral Fellowship is Rs.30800/- per month and contingency grant of Rs. 22000/- per annum for a period of two years. The maximum number of Post-Doctoral Fellowships (PDF) available for the year 2025- 26 are 10, applying the usual reservation for SC, ST& PWD.

Eligibility: Scholars who have shown significant competence in research work, having been awarded their PhD or have done equivalent research work of merit in History or its allied subjects, and desire to work on approved research themes at recognised Institutions of Research or Universities under the guidance of a Senior Scholar can apply. The applicants for the Fellowship should be affiliated with a University or a research institute of repute.

Selection (SAF and PDF): On the basis of the experts’ assessment (if recommended), shortlisted candidates shall be required to make a presentation/ personal interaction on their proposed subject of research. The award of the Fellowship will be decided by a Committee of subject experts, on the basis of the experts’ evaluation of the proposal and the presentation made by the candidate. The personal interaction will be held at the ICHR’s offices through online/offline/ hybrid mode. Date, Venue and mode of interaction will be announced at www.ichr.ac.in. SC, ST and PWD candidates who are shortlisted to make presentation or appear for interviews will be reimbursed their travel charges to the extent of 3AC railway fare chargeable by the shortest routes from railway station nearest to their normal place of residence or from where they actually perform the journey on production of ticket(s), provided the distance travelled is not less than 30 km.

In case of PDF (i) an application fee of Rs. 600/-has to be paid in the form of a Demand Draft drawn in favour of the DDO, ICHR, payable at Delhi. Those belonging to SC/ST/Persons with Disability (PwD) category are exempted from payment of the Application fee (ii) a detailed synopsis (Five copies) on the proposed research topic should be submitted (both soft copy & hard copy) along with the application.
