Post Basic Specialty Diploma Nursing Programs at SCTIMST Trivandrum

Sree Chitra Tirunal Institute for Medical Sciences and Technology (SCTIMST), Trivandrum, Kerala - 695 011, an Institution of National Importance, Department of Science and Technology, Govt. of India, has invited applications for admission to the Post Basic Speciality Diploma Nursing Programs of the Institute for the academic session January 2026.

The Institute offers two Speciality Diploma Programs in Nursing, of one-year duration, to meet the growing demand for competent and trained nurses in super specialities. These programs are: (i) Post Basic Diploma in Cardio-Thoracic Nursing, (ii) Post Basic Diploma in Neuro Science Nursing.

The programs are designed to offer advanced education and clinical experience to registered nurses to prepare them as skilled bedside nurses in respective specialities, including outpatients, inpatient and intensive care areas and equip them to assume leadership roles in these areas as skilled clinical nursing personnel. Those who successfully complete the one-year program, and are desirous of gaining further clinical experience, will be allowed to continue in the second year of the program for gaining further clinical experience (optional). The experience gained in the second year will be considered as ‘clinical experience’, and an experience certificate will be issued to such candidates. A recommendation letter, if specifically asked for in pursuit of applying for a job, may be given by the Nursing Superintendent. The students may be posted in the clinical nursing areas and offered a stipend for the second year.

Eligibility: Applicant should be a registered Nurse (R.N. & R.M.) or equivalent, should hold a Certificate from INC before admission and should be physically fit.

Upper age limit will be 35 years as of 1st January 2026, relaxable by 3 years for OBC candidates, 5 years for SC/ST candidates, sponsored candidates and for qualified Ex-service personnel with a service of not less than 5 years.

Selection will be based on a written test/Interview/departmental assessment to be held at SCTIMST, Thiruvananthapuram on 22.12.2025. The time of the written test and interview will be intimated through the hall ticket. Certificate verification will be conducted prior to the interview. The hall ticket can be downloaded 5 days prior to the entrance examination. Intimation regarding hall tickets will be sent to the registered email ID of the applicant only.

The test will have Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs), each carrying 1 mark. There are no negative marks for Wrong answers.

The minimum pass marks in the objective-type MCQ examination will be 50%. Relaxation in marks will be given for SC/ST/OBC (NCL) category candidates. Candidates who have qualified in the written examination will be short-listed for the practical.

Candidates may indicate their preferred choice of speciality in the application form. Based on seat availability, preference and merit obtained in the selection, the selection list will be finalised. Sponsored candidates will also go through the selection process, but a separate list of finally selected candidates from those who qualify in the Entrance Examination will be prepared. Reservation will be followed as per the Government of India policy.

Stipend (Except for sponsored candidates) will be Rs. 11,440/- during the first year. During the second year (Optional), it will be Rs. 13,350/-.
