MSM College internal enquiry blames university equivalency certificate for Nikhil Thomas’ admission

Kayamkulam: The internal investigation committee appointed by the MSM College here has released its findings regarding the controversial MCom admission of Nikhil Thomas, former SFI leader. The committee's report states that the college is not at fault for granting admission to Nikhil, as it was based on an eligibility (equivalence) certificate issued by the university. Consequently, the report does not recommend any disciplinary action against individuals within the college.

The responsibility, according to the report, lies with both the university and Nikhil Thomas himself. The college promptly responded to the university's explanatory notice, asserting this viewpoint. During the MCom admission process, the teachers recognized Nikhil Thomas as a former student, although they could not recall the exact year of his studies. Adhering to the prescribed criteria, the admission was carried out accordingly. The report suggests that legal action should be pursued against Nikhil in relation to the incident.

The Principal of the college sent an email to the university on Wednesday evening, addressing all the concerns raised. Meanwhile, a meeting regarding college admissions is scheduled to take place at the university on Thursday. Principals and admission duty officers will be in attendance. A. Muhammad Thaha, the principal of MSM College, will participate in the meeting held in Thiruvananthapuram and directly engage with the vice-chancellor.

It remains to be seen how the university will respond to the college's assertion of innocence. The college union has expressed their refusal to accept the findings of the Internal investigation committee report. They believe that the roles of the management and teachers should be thoroughly investigated. Student organisations have also taken a similar stance. Vice-chancellor (in-charge) Mohanan Kunnummel had stated that the college principal was responsible for the fault.
