Want to study design at NID? Applications for 2026–27 batch now open

National Institute of Design (NID) has invited applications for admission to the full time four year Bachelor of Design (B.Des.) Programmes offered at various campuses of NID.

B.Des Programs are offered at NIDs at Ahmedabad, Andhra Pradesh, Haryana, Madhya Pradesh and Assam.

The Specializations for B.Des. offered at different centres are the following:

Ahmedabad-Faculties of:

• Communication Design (Animation Film Design, Exhibition Design, Film and Video Communication, Graphic Design)
• Industrial Design (Ceramic & Glass Design, Furniture & Interior Design, Product Design)
• Textile Apparel Lifestyle & Accessory Design (Textile Design)

At Andhra Pradesh, Haryana, Madhya Pradesh and Assam, B.Des is offered in Communication Design, Industrial Design, Textile and Apparel Design.

There is a 2 semester Foundation Program at all centres. Allotment of specialization will be based on performance in foundation course and choice of applicants.

Educational Qualification

Applicant should have passed Higher Secondary (10+2) /equivalent examinations in any stream (Science /Arts /Commerce /Humanities) from any recognised Board of Education such as CBSE, CISCE, IB or equivalent or should be appearing for the qualifying examination in the academic year 2025-26.

The examinations considered equivalent are listed in the Admission 2026-27 Hand Book.

Age

Applicants should have been born on or after 1 st July 2005. Those belonging to OBC-NCL, SC, ST categories will get relaxation of 3 years (born on or after 1 st July 2002) and those of PwD category, relaxation of 5 years in upper age limit (born on or after 1 st July 2000).

Selection

Selection will be based on Design Aptitude Tests (DAT) to be conducted in two stages-DAT Prelims and DAT Mains. DAT (Prelims) will be conducted on 21.12.2025 (Sunday) at Centres across the country.

The B.Des. DAT Prelims paper is a paper-and-pencil/pen test. The questions asked may involve text and visuals.

The duration of the test will be announced in the admit card. The question paper will be in English language only.

The DAT Prelims will be conducted at Ahmedabad, Bengaluru, Bhopal, Bhubaneswar, Chandigarh, Chennai, Dehradun, Hyderabad, Jaipur, Jorhat, Kochi, Kolkata, Lucknow, Mumbai, Nagpur, New Delhi and Patna.

Based on the DAT Prelims scores, separate merit lists shall be prepared for each category (General, General-EWS, OBC-NCL, SC, ST & PwD) as applied for by the candidate.

Only shortlisted candidates, as per merit, will be eligible to appear for the DAT Mains exam as per the schedule announced. Details are given in Prospectus.

Application

Applications can be submitted online at https://admissions.nid.edu/ latest by 11.59 pm on 1.12.2025 (Monday).

Application fee is Rs. 3000/- (Rs. 2000/- for females, Rs.1500/- for SC/ST and Rs. 500/- for PwD/Third Gender) to be paid using Net Banking or Credit/Debit Card.

Window to edit the application will be open during 4 pm on 2.12.2025 and 11.59 pm on 4.12.2025.
