ITRA Jamnagar invites applications for PhD admissions 2025: Apply now

The Institute of Teaching and Research in Ayurveda (Institute of National Importance), Ministry of AYUSH, Govt. of India, Opp. B – Division Police Station, Gurudwara Road, Jamnagar – 361 008, has invited applications for admission to its PhD programme for the academic session 2025-26.
Admission will be given in 12 specialities for PhD (Ayurveda), PhD (Ayurveda Pharmacy), and PhD (Medicinal Plants) through Entrance Examination 2025. Specialities include (i) Ayurveda Samhita Evam Siddhant (ii) Dravya Guna Vigyana (iii) Rasa Shastra Evam Bhaishajya Kalpana (iv) Roga Nidana evam Vikriti Vigyana (v) Prasuti Evam Stri Roga (vi) Kaumara Bhritya (vii) Kayachikitsa (viii) Shalakya Tantra (ix) Panchakarma (x) Swasthavritta (xi) Kriya Sharira and (xii) Agad Tantra. Eligibility: Applicants should possess any of the following qualifications: (a) Postgraduate degree in Ayurveda, MD (Ayurveda) or MS (Ayurveda) in concerned subject from a recognized University or Institute established by law (b) Postgraduate degree in Ayurveda Pharmacy or Medicinal Plants or related disciplines for PhD (Ayurveda Pharmacy) and PhD (Medicinal Plants).
Those appearing in the final year examination of their respective postgraduate degrees may also apply, but their admission shall be subject to their passing the concerned examination at the time of counselling.
Those already registered for a PhD programme in another institute or university will not be eligible to register for the PhD programme of IARI. Those employed in the regular service shall have to submit the “No Objection Certificate” from the concerned employer during the interview.
Admission process: Admission to the PhD programme is through an entrance examination of 90 minutes’ duration to be conducted at the institute by the institute on 03.05.2025, followed by submission of an SOP and an interview.
For PhD (Ayurveda), the eligibility entrance examination shall be based on knowledge of Ayurveda, current advances in medical science, research methodology, biostatistics, etc. There shall be two papers of multiple-choice questions format – Paper I and Paper II, each with 50 marks. Paper I shall comprise the questions on research methodology and biostatistics along with the current advances in health sciences, and it shall be common for all the applicants, and Paper II shall be subject specific. For PhD (Ayurveda Pharmacy) and PhD (Medicinal Plants), the eligibility entrance examination shall be based on the syllabus of the postgraduate degree programme and recent advances in Ayurvedic drug research.
Questions will be in English language only. Each question carries 1 mark. In case of a wrong answer, one-fourth of the marks shall be deducted only for PhD (Ayurveda) candidates.
An applicant has to secure a minimum of 50% cumulative marks (45% for SC/ST) to qualify for the examination.
Shortlisted candidates shall be informed to submit the Statement of Purpose (SOP) to the concerned department within the given time limit. The template for the SOP is attached as an appendix to the admission brochure.
Shortlisted candidates shall be called for interview at the Institute. The interview will be based on the submitted SOP, subject knowledge and research interest. The candidate has to produce all the required documents in original at the time of the interview.
The final selection of candidates shall be done based on SOP and interview.

The duration of the PhD programme is three years, including coursework.
