Social media platform X, formerly known as Twitter, faced a widespread outage on Monday evening, with thousands of users across the United States, United Kingdom and India reporting problems accessing the service.

According to outage-tracking website Downdetector, complaints spiked to over 25,000 around 18:30 IST, with users flagging issues ranging from feeds not refreshing to login failures on both the mobile app and web version.

The disruption appeared to be global rather than region-specific, as users across multiple time zones reported similar glitches almost simultaneously. Many said posts would not load, timelines remained blank and direct messages failed to send.

The cause of the outage was not immediately known, and X had not issued an official statement at the time of publication.

As the platform struggled, users quickly turned to other social media sites, triggering the hashtag #XDown to trend.

One user wrote, “Why X is down,” while another posted, “Timeline won’t load, DMs stuck, but the memes about it are loading just fine on other apps.”

A tech blogger joked, “When X goes down, the whole internet becomes a customer support desk.”

Another post read, “Global outage and still no update. At least tell us if it’s maintenance or meltdown.”

Some users also shared screenshots of error messages, while others posted real-time outage maps and joked about “touching grass” during the downtime.
