Telegram restored on Apple App Store after brief global disappearance, search issue persists

Apple has restored Telegram to its App Store after the messaging platform briefly disappeared from search results worldwide, ending hours of uncertainty for millions of users. 

The company confirmed the development to Anadolu, saying the application has been reinstated and should gradually become available again to all users.

'Telegram has been restored on the App Store and should soon be available again for all users,' the platform said in response to Anadolu's query after users across multiple countries reported being unable to locate the app on Apple's marketplace.

The disruption was first noticed early on August 4, when searches for Telegram on the App Store returned no results across several regions.

The app's dedicated App Store page also became inaccessible for a period, prompting speculation over whether Apple had removed the messaging service or if a broader technical issue was at play.

Although Telegram's App Store listing has since returned and is once again active, users have continued to report that the app does not consistently appear in direct App Store search results.

The phased restoration suggests the service may still be propagating across Apple's global App Store infrastructure.

During the outage, existing Telegram users were largely unaffected. People who had already installed the application on their iPhones and iPads continued to send messages, make calls and access channels without interruption.

The issue only prevented new downloads and reinstallation through Apple's App Store.

Neither Apple nor Telegram founder Pavel Durov has publicly explained what caused the disruption.

It remains unclear whether the app's disappearance was the result of a technical glitch, a temporary App Store indexing problem or an internal review. Apple has also not commented on why Telegram briefly became unavailable.

The app continues to remain available on Google's Play Store, allowing Android users to download and install it without any interruption.

This is not the first time Telegram has faced issues on Apple's marketplace. In 2018, Apple temporarily removed the messaging app from the App Store after concerns over 'inappropriate content' being accessible through certain Telegram channels.

At the time, Durov said the company addressed Apple's concerns, after which the app was reinstated.

The latest incident appears to have been short-lived, but it has once again highlighted the dependence of major apps on platform operators such as Apple and Google for global distribution.

Users are now awaiting further clarification from Apple on what triggered the brief disappearance and why search functionality has not yet been fully restored in all regions.
