Spotify down globally, company responds after streaming and login outages

Music streaming platform Spotify faced a widespread outage on Monday, leaving users across several countries unable to stream audio or access their accounts. Data from outage monitoring service Downdetector showed a sharp rise in complaints, with reports from India climbing past 1,200 around 8:04 pm.
The disruption appeared more pronounced in the United States, where Downdetector logged more than 30,000 user reports. Complaints peaked at about 9:15 am Eastern Standard Time. Canada also saw notable issues, with over 3,000 reports recorded and the highest volume appearing around 9:17 am ET.
According to Downdetector figures, most affected users flagged server connection problems, accounting for 70 per cent of reports. Issues with the search feature made up 16 per cent, while 14 per cent of users said audio streaming was not working.
Spotify’s official response
Spotify later confirmed that the problems had been resolved. Posting on its official Spotify Status account on X, the company wrote, “All clear! Thanks for your patience.”
Earlier, it had acknowledged the disruption, stating that it was aware of the issues and was investigating them.
Social media reaction
The outage prompted a wave of reactions on social media, with frustrated subscribers voicing their concerns.
One user remarked that they were waiting for Spotify to fix the service despite paying for it. “me waiting for spotify to fix my spotify coz i do pay”, the user wrote.
Another said they could no longer listen to music and urged the company to resolve the issue quickly. The user wrote, “i can't listen to music anymore, please fix it”.
Third user shared sarcastic takes, including a comment noting that their CD player had not failed. “guess what didn’t fail. my cd player. my cd player didn’t fail”, the user commented.
Another had a complaint about songs cutting out within seconds despite the subscription cost. “Songs start and cut out within 10 seconds … I am paying too much for this not to work !”
