Koothuparamba (Kannur): A man has come up with a unique television that helps the viewers experience the smell of the objects displayed on the screen. Ambiladu native E Ragesh invented the television ‘Smell TV’ which offers visual, audio and smells for the audience.

A teacher at Mambaram Keezhathur UP School, Ragesh uses a special software to spread the smell according to the visuals. While watching cookery shows, the smell of food items can be experienced. Aroma of incense and flowers also can be enjoyed through ‘Smell TV’.

A circuit board with relay, censors, small motors with 3 watts’ capacity, fan and flavours of essential items are required for the device that emits smell. All these are fixed inside a cooler. The television and the device fitted inside the cooler functions simultaneously.

As the visuals are displayed on the screen, the pre-set flavours are sprayed in the device and the fan spreads the smell in the room. This technology works for only recorded programmes currently. Ragesh is trying to develop a new software for live telecast programmes.

Software engineer Sinosh also helped Ragesh in developing the ‘Smell TV’. Earlier, Ragesh had invented a remote agriculture unit, infrared border security system and other interesting devices. His wife Sapna and son Govardhan also are happy about his inventions.
