The Galaxy Fold 8 is here: What’s new in Samsung’s latest foldable?

Samsung had officially ushered in its next generation of foldable smartphones with the launch of the Galaxy Z Fold 8, unveiled at a Galaxy Unpacked event in London. Indian consumers can now expect availability and purchases to commence on 7 August.
What's New in Design and Display
The Galaxy Z Fold 8 adopts a new, highly compact 'passport-style' form factor. Weighing merely 201 grams and measuring just 4.5mm thick when unfolded, it is Samsung's lightest Fold to date. The company has refined the hinge mechanism, which noticeably reduces the display crease's visibility by 20 per cent whilst enabling a flush, slimmer profile when closed. The device is built with an armour aluminium frame, Gorilla Glass Victus protection, and an IP48 rating for dust and water resistance.
The displays have also seen notable enhancements. A 7.6-inch QXGA+ Dynamic AMOLED 2X main display alongside a highly usable 5.5-inch cover screen. Both screens feature Vision Booster technology and a 120Hz adaptive refresh rate to improve visibility and fluidity.
Key Specifications
Under the bonnet, the Galaxy Z Fold 8 is powered by a custom Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 processor, paired with up to 16GB of RAM and a maximum of 1TB of internal storage. Running on Android 17 with the One UI 9 interface, the device heavily integrates new Galaxy AI features designed for enhanced productivity.
The rear camera setup comprises a 50MP wide-angle primary lens with optical image stabilisation and a 50MP ultra-wide lens, whilst a 10MP selfie camera sits on the front. Samsung has transitioned to a new 4,800 mAh silicon-carbon battery, allowing for a more energy-dense capacity without adding physical bulk. It supports 45W wired charging and 20W Qi2 wireless charging.
