One last wish, one special gesture as Rockstar Games lets terminally ill fan play GTA 6 early

Rockstar Games has drawn widespread attention after reportedly making a deeply compassionate gesture for a terminally ill fan eagerly awaiting Grand Theft Auto VI (GTA 6). The studio is believed to have arranged early access to the upcoming title, offering the player a chance to experience the game ahead of its scheduled public release.
The story emerged after Anthony Armstrong, a developer at Ubisoft Toronto, shared an emotional message on LinkedIn seeking help for a close family member. A long-time admirer of the GTA franchise, the individual had been fighting cancer for several years and was recently given a prognosis of just six to twelve months, raising fears that he might not live to see the game’s launch.

In his post — which has since been taken down — Armstrong explained the seriousness of the situation and appealed directly to contacts at Rockstar Games and Rockstar Toronto. Acknowledging the sensitivity surrounding an unreleased title, he expressed willingness to follow strict confidentiality rules and even sign a non-disclosure agreement (NDA) if it meant granting the fan a private opportunity to play the game.
The request quickly gained traction within the gaming industry. Members of the wider community shared the appeal, amplifying its reach. According to Armstrong, the response extended beyond public support, with senior leadership from Take-Two Interactive — Rockstar’s parent company — reportedly making personal contact to explore the possibility further.

Shortly afterwards, Armstrong posted an update thanking everyone who helped circulate the message. While he avoided revealing specific details, his comments strongly suggested that meaningful progress had been made regarding the request, prompting an outpouring of goodwill across social platforms.
GTA 6 release and expectations
The moment comes at a time when anticipation for GTA 6 continues to intensify. Take-Two Interactive recently confirmed that the game’s release window has shifted from May to November 2026. The publisher stated that the additional development time is intended to refine the final product and ensure it meets the expectations attached to one of gaming’s most iconic franchises.
