iPhone Air put to ultimate bend test: WATCH what happens next

The iPhone Air is on sale with the iPhone 17 series, marking Apple’s slimmest smartphone yet at just 5.6mm. Its ultra-thin design had sparked concerns among users that it could bend easily, recalling the notorious Bendgate issues of the iPhone 6. However, a recent social media video offers reassurance to prospective buyers.
A TikTok video shared by user @marcuscupello demonstrates someone attempting to bend the iPhone Air at a table’s edge. The person even slams the phone’s bottom end, aiming to break it. Despite these extreme efforts, the device remained completely intact, highlighting its surprising durability.
iPhone Air passes machine pressure test
For those still sceptical, Chinese YouTuber Mediastorm conducted a machine-based bend test, comparing the iPhone Air with the iPhone 6. The setup applied downward pressure at the centre of each phone while supporting the ends, simulating real-world stress.
The iPhone Air endured 60.1 Kgf at its centre without bending, while the iPhone 6 showed visible deformation at a similar force of 60.2 Kgf, underlining the Air’s superior structural integrity.
iPhone Air’s strong build with premium materials
Apple has clearly prioritised durability. The iPhone Air features a titanium frame, identical to that in the iPhone 16 Pro models, and uses Ceramic Shield 2 protection on both the front and back. Official Apple durability tests confirm the Air can withstand 58kg of central pressure, and it carries an IP68 rating for dust and water resistance.
While early videos indicate that the iPhone Air is highly resilient, more durability tests are expected in the coming days. The iPhone Air is also certified with an IP68 rating, offering protection against dust and water.
