iPhone 17 tipped to feature larger, smoother display

Apple is reportedly planning a major update to its standard iPhone lineup, with fresh leaks pointing to a larger and more responsive display for the iPhone 17. According to tipster Digital Chat Station, who shared the information on Chinese platform Weibo, the base model of the iPhone 17 could feature a 6.3-inch screen — the same size as the iPhone 16 Pro’s display.

This aligns with earlier rumours indicating Apple is planning a screen overhaul for its next-generation iPhones. If true, the iPhone 17 would represent a major jump for Apple’s standard models, which have generally trailed behind their Pro counterparts in screen size.

Fueling the speculation further, a listing for Spigen’s EZ Fit tempered glass briefly appeared on Amazon India, mentioning compatibility with the iPhone 17, iPhone 17 Pro, and iPhone 16 Pro — all apparently sharing the same 6.3-inch screen size. The listing was quickly removed, but it supports the growing expectation of larger displays across more models.

Along with the size upgrade, Apple is also expected to enhance the standard iPhone’s display performance. While the iPhone 16 and 16 Plus still use a 60Hz refresh rate, the iPhone 17 is now tipped to move to a 120Hz LTPO OLED screen. This would match the Pro models, delivering smoother scrolling, improved animations, and more fluid user interaction.

However, not all premium features will trickle down. Features like Always-On Display and adaptive refresh rate, which varies from 1Hz to 120Hz, are likely to remain exclusive to the Pro series. Apple seems intent on preserving a clear distinction between its standard and Pro devices, even as hardware parity begins to close in certain areas.
