‘Spring 2027, you know the drill’: Why GTA 6 fans don't trust 300-day countdown

The wait for Grand Theft Auto 6 has hit a symbolic milestone, with 300 days remaining until the game's scheduled release on November 19, 2026. The countdown, which gamers have been tracking since Rockstar Games announced the latest delay in November 2025, has reignited discussions about when the long-anticipated title will finally arrive.
Milestone Meets Scepticism
As of January 22, the GTA 6 community marked "300 sleeps" until launch day, with fan accounts and subreddits buzzing about the numerical milestone. However, many remain unconvinced that Rockstar will hit its target date. On the GTA 6 subreddit, user TheCosmicKratos wrote: "Hi guys, Spring 2027, you know the drill". Another, Deranged1337, said: "I'll believe it when pre-orders finally go live".
The skepticism stems from the game's tumultuous timeline. First announced in February 2022, GTA 6 was initially targeted for late 2025 before being pushed to May 26, 2026. Then, in November 2025, Rockstar delayed the game again to November 19, 2026, stating it needed additional time "to finish the game with the level of polish you have come to expect and deserve".
Playlist Updates Fuel Trailer Speculation
Rockstar has quietly been updating its YouTube playlists, including one titled "Grand Theft Auto VI trailers," sparking speculation that a third trailer could be imminent. On January 19, a post from @GTAVI_Countdown displayed screenshots showing timestamp changes on Rockstar's official channel, which quickly went viral on social media.
Gaming analysts suggest a third trailer could arrive in late winter or spring 2026, aligning with marketing cycles and the upcoming Take-Two Interactive earnings call scheduled for February 3, 2026. However, fans remain divided on the significance of the updates. "This means nothing," wrote one Reddit user. "Reminds me of the empty 'screens' display from their website".
Edinburgh Office Incident Resolved
Earlier in the week, emergency services responded to a boiler malfunction at Rockstar North's Edinburgh headquarters on January 19. The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service dispatched three fire appliances at 5:02 AM and worked to secure "structural damage" at the commercial building. By 9:21 AM, crews had left the scene with no reported casualties.
Rockstar confirmed to outlets, including GameIndustry.biz, that the incident was minor. "Please know that everyone is well and our studio remains open and operational," a spokesperson said. The studio continues development on GTA 6, which features criminal duo Jason Duval and Lucia Caminos navigating the fictional state of Leonida, inspired by Florida and Vice City.
