Check your PF balance on WhatsApp: EPFO launches new service for subscribers

New Delhi: Employees' Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) subscribers can now check their provident fund (PF) balance, access passbook details and view their latest five transactions through WhatsApp, following the launch of a new service by Union Labour and Employment Minister Mansukh Mandaviya.
The WhatsApp-based facility was launched on November 1 during the celebration of EPFO's 74th Foundation Day in New Delhi. It will allow members to access routine account information through EPFO's verified WhatsApp service, reducing the need to visit an EPFO office for basic services.
The platform will also provide personalised guidance and assistance to subscribers completing requirements related to the Pradhan Mantri Viksit Bharat Rozgar Yojana (PMVBRY), according to a Labour Ministry statement.
What EPFO services are available on WhatsApp?
Under the new facility, subscribers can access three key types of account information:
- PF balance: Check the balance in their provident fund account.
- Latest transactions: View details of their five most recent transactions.
- Passbook details: Access information from their EPF passbook.
The service will also offer personalised guidance and assistance for PMVBRY-related requirements.

How can EPFO members access the WhatsApp service?
EPFO has described the facility as a verified WhatsApp service. However, the November 1 launch announcement does not specify the official WhatsApp number or provide a step-by-step activation process.
In May 2026, Mandaviya had indicated that members would be able to initiate conversations by sending a 'Hello' message to EPFO's verified WhatsApp number. The proposed service was also expected to support regional languages and automated responses around the clock. These details were part of the earlier announcement and should not be treated as confirmed instructions for accessing the newly launched facility.
Members should use only WhatsApp contact details published through EPFO's official website or verified communication channels and avoid sharing their UAN password, OTP or bank credentials with unverified numbers.
Inactive PF accounts up to ₹1,000 to be settled automatically
Alongside the WhatsApp service, Mandaviya launched automatic settlement of eligible inoperative EPF accounts.
Subscribers with Aadhaar-verified inoperative accounts carrying balances of up to ₹1,000 will no longer need to submit individual claims to receive their dues. The EPFO will initiate the settlement process automatically after completing the prescribed identity and bank-account verification.
The eligible amount will then be transferred to the rightful beneficiaries.
According to the Labour Ministry, around one lakh accounts involving a total of ₹5 crore are expected to benefit from the initiative.

EPFO marks 74 years, highlights ₹32 lakh crore corpus
Seven publications were released during the Foundation Day celebration, reflecting the organisation's focus on knowledge creation, institutional learning, legal awareness and compassionate governance.
Addressing the event, Mandaviya said EPFO had emerged as a trusted institution for India's workforce over its 74-year journey. He highlighted that the organisation had accumulated a corpus of ₹32 lakh crore through contributions from more than eight crore members.
According to the figures cited by Livemint, EPFO also serves around 85 lakh pensioners. The organisation's average claim settlement time declined to 2.57 days in October 2026.
The minister urged officials to prioritise worker-centric innovations as EPFO approaches its 75th year, while adapting to changing needs and improving institutional processes.
