Elon Musk confirms SpaceXAI will be renamed SpaceXSI after Trump’s ‘Super Intelligence’ order

Washington: SpaceX and Tesla CEO Elon Musk has confirmed that the company’s artificial intelligence arm, SpaceXAI, will be renamed SpaceXSI, following US President Donald Trump’s executive order promoting the use of the term “Super Intelligence” instead of “Artificial Intelligence”.
Musk confirmed the rebranding in a post on X on Sunday, responding to a user who asked whether the company could change its name to SpaceXSI.
“Yes, we will make that change,” Musk replied.
In a separate post, Musk added: “No more AI. SI, it’s better.”
The move follows an executive order signed by Trump on September 29 titled “Inaugurating the Era of Super Intelligence”. The order directs departments and agencies across the US executive branch to use “Super Intelligence” and the abbreviation “SI” in official correspondence, public communications, policy documents and other non-statutory documents.
According to a White House fact sheet, the order is intended to reflect what the administration describes as the rapidly advancing technological frontier and the potential economic benefits of the technology.
The order also instructs the Assistant to the President for Science and Technology to propose a federal definition of “Super Intelligence” and “SI” that reflects the current state of the technology. The official is also tasked with identifying any further executive action required to implement the proposed definition.
The White House said the move was aimed at ensuring the US remains a leader in the development of superintelligence and that Americans benefit from its economic potential.
Musk’s decision to adopt the terminology comes shortly after Trump’s order.
The billionaire has previously expressed strong interest in the concept of superintelligence. He endorsed and contributed to Nick Bostrom’s 2014 book Superintelligence: Paths, Dangers, Strategies, which examines the potential risks posed by highly advanced AI systems.
Musk has previously warned that uncontrolled superintelligence could pose a greater threat than nuclear weapons.
