Hundreds of users worldwide reported issues accessing Claude, the artificial intelligence chatbot developed by Anthropic, on June 2. The disruption affected Claude Chat, developer tools and API services, prompting the company to acknowledge the incident and begin implementing a fix.

According to outage-monitoring platform Downdetector, reports surged sharply around midday, rising from a normal baseline to more than 230 complaints within a short period. The sudden spike suggested that the issue was affecting users across multiple regions rather than being limited to isolated accounts.

Most reported problems

Data shared by Downdetector indicated that the majority of complaints were related to Claude Chat, while others involved the mobile application, website and API services. Users reported being unable to load conversations, receive responses or access various Claude-powered services.

The reported issues included:

  • 62% related to Claude Chat
  • 17% related to the app
  • 15% related to the website

Additional complaints involving login failures, API access and response delays

Anthropic acknowledges outage

Anthropic confirmed the disruption through its official status page, where it reported an incident involving "elevated errors across multiple models".

The company first logged the issue at 06:04 UTC and later updated the status to "Identified" at 06:39 UTC, stating that engineers had determined the cause and were implementing a fix.

Several key services were marked as experiencing a partial outage, including Claude.ai, Claude Console, Claude API and Claude Code.

Recent service disruptions

The latest incident follows a series of service interruptions recorded by Anthropic in recent weeks. Previous disruptions affected major Claude models, including Opus, Sonnet and Haiku, leading to elevated error rates and temporary service degradation.

While outage reports submitted to Downdetector do not always indicate a complete platform failure, Anthropic's confirmation of the incident suggests that the disruption was genuine and affected multiple services across its ecosystem.

At the time of reporting, the company had not provided an estimated timeline for full restoration of services.
