Roger Federer becomes a billionaire, joining exclusive club of athletes

Mumbai: Roger Federer, the iconic Swiss tennis player and 20-time Grand Slam champion, has officially become a billionaire, joining an exclusive club of athletes with a net worth exceeding $1 billion, Forbes announced on August 22, 2025.
At 44 years old and having retired from professional tennis in 2022, Federer’s wealth is estimated at $1.1 billion. His fortune is built not only on his stellar career earnings, where he amassed close to $131 million in prize money, but also from strategic business investments and lucrative endorsement deals.
A major portion of Federer’s wealth comes from his minority stake in the Swiss footwear and apparel company On, which he invested in during 2019. The brand has soared in popularity globally, going public in 2021 with a valuation of nearly $15 billion, making Federer’s equity stake worth over $375 million.
Federer’s off-court endorsements have been equally impressive. Following his departure from Nike in 2018, he signed a decade-long $300 million deal with Uniqlo, ensuring a steady income stream. He has also been associated with luxury and lifestyle brands including Rolex, Mercedes-Benz, Credit Suisse, and Moët & Chandon.
In addition to endorsements and investments, Federer co-founded Team8, a sports management firm, and launched the Laver Cup, an annual team tennis event that has gained global recognition.
Federer is the second tennis player to enter the billionaire ranks after Romanian Ion Țiriac, who transitioned to successful business ventures post-retirement. The billionaire athlete club includes legends like Michael Jordan, LeBron James, Tiger Woods, and Magic Johnson.
