Youngest India debutant! Sooryavanshi breaks Sachin’s record; out with 14 runs in T20I vs England

Manchester: Teen batting sensation Vaibhav Sooryavanshi has made history by becoming the youngest player to represent India across formats and the youngest debutant from a Test-playing nation in T20 International cricket.
The 15-year-old was named in India’s playing XI for the second T20I against England in Manchester on Saturday, making his debut at just 15 years and 99 days.
With this appearance, Sooryavanshi surpassed long-standing records held by Sachin Tendulkar, who made his Test debut at 16 years and 205 days and ODI debut at 16 years and 238 days, as well as Piyush Chawla, who debuted in Tests at 17 years and 75 days.
Rapid rise after breakout IPL season
Sooryavanshi’s selection comes after a sensational IPL 2026 season with Rajasthan Royals, where he scored 776 runs at a striking rate of 237.30, including a century and five half-centuries. He finished as the tournament’s leading run-scorer and also smashed a record 72 sixes, earning multiple accolades including the Orange Cap, Most Valuable Player, Emerging Player, Super Striker and Super Sixes awards.
Strong performances across formats
The youngster has also impressed in domestic and age-group cricket. In a recent tri-series involving Sri Lanka A and Afghanistan A, he scored 211 runs in five innings at an average of 42.20, striking at nearly 201, with a top score of 94.
He also recorded the fastest List A fifty in just 11 balls against Sri Lanka A.
In his overall career so far, Sooryavanshi has shown explosive numbers across formats:
- 1,028 runs in 23 IPL matches at an average of 44.69 and strike rate of 228.95
- 1,477 runs in 34 T20 matches with four centuries
- 1,412 runs in youth ODIs, including four centuries
- 439 runs in the U19 World Cup, where he was among the top performers
A record-breaking future star
Across formats, Sooryavanshi has built a reputation as one of India’s most aggressive young batters, with comparisons to modern T20 power-hitters rather than traditional accumulators.
His international debut marks a new milestone in a rapidly rising career that has already broken several long-standing records in Indian cricket.
Out after scoring 14
Sooryavanshi was out after scoring 14 runs off 10 balls in the second T20I against England, an innings that included two sixes. The game began with India winning the toss and opting to bat first on Saturday.
