Venus Williams honoured with new barbie doll in 'Inspiring Women' series

New York: Tennis legend Venus Williams is set to be immortalised once again – this time as part of Barbie's ‘Inspiring Women’ collection, which celebrates pioneering female figures across various fields.
The new doll, which will be released on Friday, highlights Williams’ legacy not just as a tennis champion, but also as a leading advocate for gender pay equality in sport.
What does the Venus Williams barbie represent?
The Barbie will depict Williams in the iconic outfit she wore during her 2007 Wimbledon victory – a pivotal moment in tennis history. That win marked her fifth Grand Slam title and was also significant as it was the first time equal prize money was awarded to both male and female champions at a major tournament.
The doll features an all-white tennis outfit, paired with a green gemstone necklace, wristband, racket, and tennis ball. It is expected to retail at approximately USD 38.
In May 2024, Williams was also featured in a limited-edition Barbie release celebrating the brand’s 65th anniversary, alongside eight other trailblazing female athletes from around the world.
