Priyadarshan meets bowler who injured his eye; 40-yr-old wound healed

Director Priyadarshan, known for his cinematic flair, experienced a poignant reunion with former fast bowler Haneef Mohammed, a relationship that dates back to a cricketing incident 40 years ago. During a college cricket match, Priyadarshan, then a player, suffered a serious eye injury from a delivery by Mohammed, which nearly cost him his sight.

Despite the setback, Priyadarshan’s love for cricket remained strong, eventually leading him to become the owner of the Trivandrum Royals in the Kerala Cricket League. In a twist reminiscent of a dramatic film climax, Priyadarshan invited Mohammed, who had been a key figure in his painful memory, to the league's opening ceremony. Mohammed, who had no recollection of the incident or its impact on Priyadarshan, attended the event despite his physical limitations and being on a wheelchair.

This touching gesture was Priyadarshan’s way of coming full circle, as he chose to spend a meaningful evening with his old cricket mate, revisiting both pleasant and painful memories.

‘Cricket is a celebration of sportsman spirit’

Mollywood superstar Mohanlal, the brand ambassador for the Kerala Cricket League, stated, “More than a game, cricket is a celebration of sportsmanship.” He made this remark at the league's opening ceremony held at the Greenfield International Stadium in Karyavattom on Monday.

In the rain-affected first match of the league, the Trivandrum Royals narrowly defeated the Kochi Blue Tigers by one run using the DLS method.
