Lionel Messi’s sister, Maria Sol Messi, has reportedly been forced to postpone her upcoming wedding after suffering serious injuries in a traffic accident in Miami. The 32-year-old was scheduled to get married on January 3 in Rosario, Argentina, but the ceremony has now been suspended as she faces a lengthy recovery period.

According to Argentine media reports, Maria Sol was involved in a single-vehicle crash after losing control of her car and hitting a wall. The accident left her with spinal injuries, including displaced vertebrae, as well as burns, which doctors say can be particularly difficult and time-consuming to treat.

Argentinian TV journalist and presenter Ángel de Brito shared the update on the popular America TV programme LAM, saying he had spoken directly to members of the Messi family. De Brito revealed that Messi’s mother confirmed Maria Sol was “out of danger,” offering reassurance amid widespread concern, but stressed that she now requires extensive rehabilitation.

“She’s okay, she’s out of danger,” de Brito said while reading messages during the broadcast. “But I was checking things with the family because she was due to get married in Rosario on January 3, and she’s going to have to suspend it. She suffered burns, and burns are very difficult to treat, as well as displacement of vertebrae.”

The wedding was expected to be a major family event, with Lionel Messi and several close relatives likely to travel from the United States to Argentina for the celebrations. Maria Sol was reportedly set to marry a member of Inter Miami’s coaching staff, further strengthening the family’s ties to the MLS club where Messi currently plays.

While Lionel Messi has not made a public statement so far, sources close to the family say the football icon is fully focused on his sister’s recovery and has been in constant contact with relatives following the accident.

Maria Sol Messi, who maintains a relatively private life compared to her world-famous brother, has often been seen supporting Messi at major tournaments and family occasions. Her condition has sparked an outpouring of concern and well-wishes from fans on social media.

Doctors are expected to reassess her condition in the coming weeks, with her recovery timeline depending largely on how her spinal injuries and burns heal. For now, the priority remains her health, with wedding plans taking a back seat until she is fully fit again.
