India vs England 2nd test: Rishabh Pant sends bat flying, Jasprit Bumrah can’t hold on to his laughter

Edgbaston: Rishabh Pant turned Day 4 of the Edgbaston Test into an unmissable comedy special when he sent his bat soaring through the Birmingham sky, leaving fans, teammates, and commentators in splits.
The hilarious incident happened in the 34th over when Pant went for one of his trademark big swings but completely lost grip, launching his bat several metres away. The Indian vice-captain had to sheepishly walk over and retrieve it as the crowd cheered and the Indian dressing room — including Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj — burst into laughter.
Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj couldn’t help but crack up at Pant’s flying bat antics — something the swashbuckling keeper-batter has pulled off before, too. Earlier this year, in the IPL clash between LSG and PBKS at Dharamshala, Pant launched his bat into orbit and lost his wicket in the process. This time, though, the only thing Pant lost was his grip — and the crowd loved every second of it. Watch the hilarious moment in the full video below:

Turns out, it’s not Pant’s first “bat toss” either. During this year’s IPL clash between LSG and PBKS in Dharamshala, he flung his bat and lost his wicket in the process. Luckily, this time around, he kept both the laughter and his wicket.
Commentary box banter added extra flavour to the moment. Former Indian keeper Dinesh Karthik, on Sky Sports duty, exclaimed,
- Pant has lit this stadium alive. He lost his bat and then lost his shape!”
- Meanwhile, England’s Stuart Broad playfully warned viewers:
- “It’s chaos. Don’t go anywhere. You can’t predict what Pant is going to do. Even he doesn’t know!”
Pant didn’t stop at comic relief — he also survived two big scares. Zak Crawley spilled a straightforward catch when Pant was on 10. Moments later, after his bat took flight, Pant nearly gifted his wicket again with a leading edge, but Chris Woakes couldn’t hold on to the diving chance.
With a flurry of boundaries and a six early in his innings, Pant once again showed why watching him is pure box office, complete with unscripted slapstick moments! He got out for 65 on a ball by Shoaib Bashir, which was caught by Ben Duckett.
