Atlanta: The football world has just witnessed one of the greatest matches in World Cup history. In an absolutely thrilling semi-final, Lionel Messi and his squad clawed their way back from the brink to defeat England, booking their tickets to a second consecutive World Cup final. Among the roaring crowds witnessing this epic encounter at the Atlanta Stadium in Georgia was Malayalam cinema legend Mohanlal.

Speaking exclusively to Mathrubhumi, Mohanlal expressed that the sheer fighting spirit demonstrated by both sides made it an unforgettable encounter. He was quick to praise the triumphant South American giants.

"I have just finished watching Argentina's thrilling victory," Mohanlal stated. "What a match it was! It had absolutely everything: skill, passion, resilience and pure courage. The fighting spirit of both teams rendered this match unforgettable. Heartiest congratulations to Argentina on reaching the final," he said.

The defending champions pulled off a remarkable turnaround after trailing by a goal until the 84th minute. In a breathless seven-minute window, the Albiceleste breached the English defence twice to secure their final berth, true to their reputation. Living up to his legendary billing, talisman Lionel Messi pulled the strings masterfully, providing the assists for both crucial goals.

England had broken the deadlock in the 55th minute when Anthony Gordon capitalised on a well-timed cross from Morgan Rogers to slot the ball home. Argentina's response came in the 85th minute via a spectacular long-range rocket from Enzo Fernandez that left the English keeper stranded. With momentum firmly on their side, substitute Lautaro Martinez rose to the occasion in the second minute of injury time, heading home the dramatic winner.

Argentina will now face European champions Spain in the blockbuster final scheduled for Sunday, July 19.
