Liverpool: Mohamed Salah issued an apology to his Liverpool teammates after griping about being “thrown under the bus” by the Premier League champions, midfielder Curtis Jones revealed.

Jones informed Sky Sports broadcaster on Saturday that Salah personally cleared the air with the squad.

“Mo is his own man, and he can say his own stuff. He apologised to us and was like, 'If I've affected anybody or made you feel any sort of way, I apologise.' That's the man that he is," Jones told Sky. “He was the exact same Mo; he had a big smile on his face, and everybody was exactly the same with him. I guess it’s just part of wanting to be a winner.”

The 33-year-old Egyptian forward has tallied 250 goals across all competitions for Liverpool, but managed just five this season in 20 appearances.

Last campaign ranked among his finest, with 34 goals in 52 outings that earned him a third Professional Footballers’ Association player of the year honour.

Currently at the Africa Cup of Nations, Salah vented frustration over perceived unfair treatment at Liverpool following a third straight benching.

Post those remarks, coach Arne Slot omitted Salah from the Champions League lineup at Inter Milan. After the Slot discussions, Salah featured against Brighton last Saturday.

Since a 4-1 home Champions League loss to PSV Eindhoven in late November, Liverpool remained unbeaten in five ahead of Saturday's Premier League clash at Tottenham.

“We’re past that now, and we’re gelling well as a team," Jones noted. “Playing well and starting to win games.”
