Riyadh: Al Nassr looked set to move within touching distance of the league title after defender Mohamed Simakan scored in the 37th minute to give the side the lead against Al Hilal.

The match remained 1-0 deep into stoppage time, with fans beginning to celebrate what appeared to be a decisive result in the title race.

However, in the eighth minute of added time, goalkeeper Bento accidentally pushed the ball into his own net after it slipped past his gloves, handing Al Hilal a dramatic equaliser and delaying Al Nassr’s title hopes.

Ronaldo says ‘the dream is close’

Following the draw, Cristiano Ronaldo thanked supporters for their backing and insisted the team remained close to achieving its objective.

“The dream is close. Heads up, we have one more step to take! Thank you all for the amazing support tonight!,” Ronaldo posted on social media.

After 33 matches, Al Nassr remain top of the Saudi Pro League standings with 83 points, holding a five-point advantage over Al Hilal.

Al Nassr will now look to secure the title in their final league match against Damac FC next Thursday, while Al Hilal face NEOM SC on Saturday.

Apart from the domestic title race, Ronaldo and Al Nassr are also preparing for a major continental challenge.

The Riyadh-based club will face Gamba Osaka on May 16 in the AFC Champions League Two final in Riyadh as they continue their pursuit of silverware this season.
