What happened to Rohit Sharma during the Bronco Test in Bengaluru? Report

India’s ODI captain Rohit Sharma has drawn widespread praise after reportedly excelling in the newly introduced Bronco Test, conducted by the BCCI as part of its updated fitness regime. The test, which complements the now-standard Yo-Yo endurance drill, was held at the Board’s Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru on 30 and 31 August.
According to RevSportz Global, the 38-year-old not only cleared the test but impressed onlookers with his physical conditioning and overall performance. His showing provided a timely boost amid speculation over his long-term future, especially since he has already retired from T20Is and Tests. Paceman Prasidh Krishna was also said to have registered standout numbers.
Rohit, who remains active in ODIs and continues to feature for Mumbai Indians in the IPL, is expected to travel to Australia in October for a three-match ODI series. There is also the possibility of him turning out for India A in their one-day fixtures against Australia A in Kanpur at the end of September, though this has not yet been confirmed.
The fitness camp was not limited to Rohit alone. Other leading cricketers, including Test captain Shubman Gill, Jasprit Bumrah and Jitesh Sharma, successfully cleared the parameters. Gill, who had recently withdrawn from the Duleep Trophy due to illness, underwent the mandatory test before leaving for Dubai to lead India in the Asia Cup beginning on 9 September.
Additional participants at the CoE included Mohammed Siraj, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Washington Sundar and Shardul Thakur, all of whom cleared the requirements without concern. While Jaiswal and Sundar remain on standby for the Asia Cup, Thakur will captain West Zone in the Duleep Trophy semi-final. Players also underwent a DXA scan, a test to measure bone density, as part of the assessment.
Other squad members such as Arshdeep Singh, Harshit Rana, Kuldeep Yadav and Riyan Parag were not required to retest due to their participation in Duleep Trophy matches. Wicketkeeper Dhruv Jurel, meanwhile, continues to be monitored after a groin niggle forced him out of the tournament.
Rohit’s strong performance in the Bronco Test has reassured fans and selectors alike that the veteran remains in peak condition as India gear up for a crucial run of fixtures.
