The IPL 2026 auction once again proved why it remains one of cricket’s most dramatic stages. While several franchises splurged big on marquee names, a handful of teams quietly pulled off shrewd deals that could turn out to be season-defining.

From experienced international stars to under-the-radar picks, these bargain buys stood out for their surprisingly low price tags and immense potential value.

Here’s a look at the top steals of the IPL 2026 auction that left fans and experts stunned.

David Miller – Delhi Capitals (₹2 Crore)

South African veteran David Miller became the first player sold at the IPL 2026 auction, and Delhi Capitals snapped him up at his base price of ₹2 crore—without any bidding war. At 36, Miller may not be at his physical peak, but his calm presence and proven finishing ability make him a priceless T20 asset.

The Delhi Capitals have struggled with middle-order stability in recent seasons, particularly after Harry Brook’s absence in IPL 2025. Miller fits that gap perfectly, bringing experience, composure under pressure, and the ability to close out tight matches—making this one of the smartest buys of the auction.

Ben Duckett – Delhi Capitals (₹2 Crore)

Delhi Capitals doubled down on smart recruitment by picking English opener Ben Duckett for his base price of ₹2 crore. DC’s opening combinations failed to click last season, and Duckett offers an aggressive yet reliable solution.

In 2025, Duckett scored 443 runs in 20 T20 innings at a strike rate of 142.44. His attacking style at the top, especially alongside KL Rahul, could give DC the explosive starts they’ve been missing.

Quinton de Kock – Mumbai Indians (₹1 Crore)

One of the biggest surprises of the auction was the Mumbai Indians securing Quinton de Kock for just ₹1 crore. Released by KKR after IPL 2025, the experienced South African wicketkeeper-batter found a familiar home at MI.

De Kock has previously played a key role in Mumbai’s success and is familiar with the Wankhede conditions. For a proven opener with leadership experience, this deal looks like a massive steal.

Akash Deep – Kolkata Knight Riders (₹1 Crore)

India pacer Akash Deep, who fetched around ₹8 crore in the previous auction, went unsold initially before being picked up by KKR in the accelerated round at his base price of ₹1 crore.

For a team known for backing Indian fast bowlers, KKR may have struck gold again. If Akash Deep regains form, this could turn into one of the most value-for-money deals of IPL 2026.

Jacob Duffy – Royal Challengers Bengaluru (₹2 Crore)

New Zealand fast bowler Jacob Duffy finally earned his maiden IPL contract after multiple unsuccessful attempts in past auctions. RCB picked him for ₹2 crore in the mini-auction held in Abu Dhabi.

A regular in New Zealand’s white-ball setup, Duffy is yet to make his IPL debut. However, his ability to swing the ball and bowl disciplined spells makes him an exciting addition to RCB’s pace attack.

Anrich Nortje – Lucknow Super Giants (₹2 Crore)

South African speedster Anrich Nortje turned out to be a bargain for Lucknow Super Giants, who signed him for ₹2 crore. Known for clocking speeds above 150 kph, Nortje’s career has been hampered by injuries in recent years.

If he stays fit, LSG could have one of the most lethal fast bowlers in the tournament at a fraction of his peak value.

Wanindu Hasaranga – Lucknow Super Giants (₹2 Crore)

Sri Lankan leg-spinner Wanindu Hasaranga might just be the steal of the auction. Despite his match-winning reputation, LSG bagged him for his base price of ₹2 crore.

A proven wicket-taker in the middle overs and a handy lower-order batter, Hasaranga’s low valuation shocked many. For a genuine bowling all-rounder with IPL pedigree, this deal could tilt matches in LSG’s favour.
