Mumbai: The Maharashtra government has announced a cash reward of ₹2.25 crore each for Indian cricketers Smriti Mandhana, Jemimah Rodrigues and Radha Yadav, who were part of the Indian women’s cricket team that recently lifted the ICC Women’s World Cup 2025.

Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis honoured the players in Mumbai on Friday, lauding them for bringing glory to the nation and inspiring a new generation of women athletes.

“It's a matter of great pride for all of us that our women's team has won the ICC Women's World Cup title,” Fadnavis said.

He added that the team had already met the Prime Minister and the President, and the Maharashtra government plans to invite the entire squad for a grand felicitation soon.

“Smriti Mandana, Jemimah Rodriguez, Radha Yadav and Amol Muzumdar, the coach, are from Maharashtra, and so we decided to welcome and honour them. There's a government decision that when an athlete performs well at the international level, we give them approximately Rs 2.25 crore as prize money. The coach also receives Rs 25 lakh. We gave that to them today, and we also gave their other coaches a prize of Rs 11 lakh,” he explained.

Fadnavis emphasised that while the cash prize was a token of appreciation, the players’ achievements and the pride they brought to India were “far more valuable than money.”

“These girls have once again inspired Indian girls to dream, and our girls will enter the sports field on a large scale,” he added.

The Indian women’s cricket team made history by winning the ICC Women’s World Cup 2025, marking the country’s first-ever title in the tournament’s history. Led by a dominant performance throughout, the team’s victory has been hailed as a watershed moment for women’s cricket in India.
