Guwahati: India's batting lineup crumbled spectacularly on Day 3 of the second Test against South Africa in Guwahati, with the hosts being dismissed for just 201 runs, 288 behind the visitors' first-innings total of 489.

The collapse began immediately after Yashasvi Jaiswal's dismissal for 58, which triggered a chain reaction of failures. Sai Sudharsan fell for 15, followed by Dhruv Jurel without scoring. Captain Rishabh Pant's aggressive attempt lasted only 7 runs before he edged a Marco Jansen short-pitch delivery to the keeper.

Marco Jansen proved to be the architect of India's downfall, claiming a career-best six wickets for 48 runs. The South African all-rounder, who had already contributed 93 crucial runs in his team's first innings, systematically dismantled India's batting order using relentless short-pitched bowling that exploited the variable bounce at the Barsapara Cricket Stadium.

Nitish Kumar Reddy, Ravindra Jadeja, and Kuldeep Yadav all fell to Jansen's hostile bowling, with even a successful review unable to save Jadeja from the pressure. Jasprit Bumrah's dismissal, bowled by Jansen, confirmed India's ignominious exit.

Washington Sundar and Kuldeep Yadav provided the only meaningful resistance with a 34-run partnership, temporarily arresting the slide before succumbing to the relentless pressure.

In a strategic decision, South Africa's captain Temba Bavuma chose not to enforce the follow-on, even though he had a significant advantage.
