Michael Vaughan has expressed concern over Rohit Sharma’s recent performance in the IPL 2025 season, particularly highlighting the fact that if it were any other player with similar statistics, they might have already been dropped from the team. Rohit, who has scored 0, 8, and 13 in the opening matches of the season, has struggled to make an impact with the bat. Vaughan pointed out that, as a player who is no longer the captain of Mumbai Indians, Rohit is now being judged purely for his batting performance.

In a chat on Cricbuzz, Vaughan emphasized that, under normal circumstances, such mediocre performances would lead to a player being dropped from the side. He stated, "If your name's not Rohit Sharma, you're probably losing your place in the side at some stage with those numbers," reflecting his belief that Rohit’s position in the team is largely protected due to his stature and leadership history, rather than his current form.

Vaughan further suggested that if Rohit were still the captain, he might have been able to justify his place in the team through his leadership and tactical contributions, as he did in the past for both India and Mumbai Indians. However, now that he is only being judged as a batter, his lack of consistency is a concern for the franchise.

Vaughan also recommended that Mumbai Indians’ management have a conversation with Rohit to help him regain his form, as the team needs their senior players, including Rohit, to step up and deliver consistently. With key figures like Trent Boult and Suryakumar Yadav also needing to perform, Vaughan stressed that the young players can only thrive if the senior core sets the example. (With inputs from Agencies)
