Thrissur: Maintaining that there was erosion of votes even in the LDF strongholds, the Left candidate in Thrissur, V S Sunil Kumar, said that about one and a half Lakh UDF votes also went to BJP.  He also said that keeping their differences aside, both the LDF and UDF fronts should conduct a factual assessment of the same.

A detailed investigation into what had happened in Thrissur is yet to be done. Booth wise information has been collected which would be analysed in detail to determine what had happened in each area especially LDF strongholds like Pudukkad and Nattika where significant votes were lost.

The shift occurred is not between LDF and UDF. Thrissur has been a constituency where the BJP has traditionally received votes. Even though the BJP lost in 2014, it managed to get a good vote share. The BJP received votes that the Left should have secured. Also, it should be assessed how so many votes shifted from Congress to BJP.

T N Prathapan said during the campaign that the contest was between UDF and NDA. The Congress also had campaigned that the Left Front was making a deal with the BJP, yet the Congress lost more than 1,00,000 votes. Sunil Kumar also stated that it is necessary to evaluate how approximately one and a half Lakh votes went to the BJP despite a pro-Congress wave across Kerala.
