Harry Kane's near misses: A list of trophy heartbreaks for club and country

Berlin: In a dramatic Euro 2024 final, Spain emerged victorious against England with a 2-1 win, marking yet another heartbreak for England's star striker, Harry Kane. This defeat adds to Kane's growing list of near-misses in major finals.

The match at the Olympiastadion saw Spain take the lead early in the second half. Nico Williams broke the deadlock in the 47th minute, capitalizing on a well-placed pass from Lamine Yamal to slot the ball past Jordan Pickford. England, determined to fight back, found an equalizer in the 73rd minute when substitute Cole Palmer made an immediate impact, scoring after a brilliant setup by Bukayo Saka and Jude Bellingham.

However, Spain was not to be denied their moment of glory. In the 86th minute, Mikel Oyarzabal received a perfect pass from Marc Cucurella and skillfully guided the ball past Pickford, sealing Spain's victory and their European Cup 2024 triumph.

Meawhile, Kane finished Euro 2024 in a six-way tie for top scorer, another individual accolade for a player yet to win a major trophy for club or country.

Kane ended the tournament tied on three goals with Spain midfielder Dani Olmo, Germany midfielder Jamal Musiala, Netherlands forward Cody Gakpo, Slovakia winger Ivan Schranz and Georgia striker Georges Mikautadze.

Kane has now been a runner-up in back-to-back European Championship finals after England's loss to Italy three years ago, and a runner-up in one Champions League final and two English League Cups, even as he's won a string of individual scoring awards.
