‘Not true’ White House calls Iran ceasefire extension claim ‘bad reporting’

Washinton DC: The White House has denied reports claiming that Washington formally requested an extension of the ceasefire with Iran, stating that such claims are “not true at this moment,” according to Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt.

Speaking during a press briefing, Leavitt said she had seen “bad reporting” suggesting that the US had formally asked for a ceasefire extension. She clarified that no such official request had been made. She adaded: "We feel good about the prospects of a deal... and it's obviously in the best interest of Iran to meet the President’s demands."

She added that the United States remains engaged in ongoing diplomatic discussions with Iran through established channels, and that talks at senior levels are continuing despite the denial of any formal extension request.

Leavitt also noted that while discussions around potential in-person meetings are taking place, no final decisions have been made. She emphasised that any official confirmation would come directly from the White House.

The statement comes amid heightened attention on US–Iran relations following reports of continued negotiations aimed at stabilising the fragile ceasefire situation in the region.
