‘120 US naval vessels ready’: White House warns Iran amid Gulf tensions

Washington: The United States is intensifying coordination with allies in Europe and the Gulf to secure strategic maritime routes and reopen key shipping lanes, the White House confirmed on Wednesday.
White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt said Washington is working closely with partners to ensure regional stability and protect US interests. “The President is continuing discussions with our allies, both in Europe and the Gulf of the Arab region,” she stated, emphasising ongoing diplomatic and military engagement.
US military readiness remains robust
Leavitt highlighted the US military’s operational capability amid escalating tensions, noting that recent actions are part of a broader strategy to neutralise threats from Iran and prevent further escalation. She confirmed that the operations aim to ensure Iran cannot permanently acquire a nuclear weapon.
“The United States military has a tremendous capability, and there is a plan in place. We have already seen some progress with respect to that,” she said.
Focus on protecting US personnel and assets
The administration’s immediate priority is the protection of US forces and interests in the region. Leavitt underlined that recent strikes against Iranian targets were pre-emptive measures based on intelligence, designed to prevent attacks on American personnel, assets, and bases.
“Iran is rapidly developing ballistic missiles and building a shield to pursue nuclear capabilities. The President’s decision was backed by intelligence and aimed at protecting the United States,” she added.

Diplomacy and international engagement
Leavitt confirmed that a planned US presidential visit to China has been postponed, with both sides coordinating to reschedule. She also addressed criticism following the resignation of Joe Kent, the former top counterterrorism official, dismissing claims in his resignation letter as unfounded.
“The President’s decisions are made in the national interest and guided by intelligence assessments,” she said, defending the administration’s strategy regarding Iran.
Strategic implications
With more than 120 US naval vessels deployed, the US is signalling a strong presence to ensure free navigation in critical maritime chokepoints, including the Strait of Hormuz, while coordinating with regional allies to maintain global trade flows and security.
This move underscores Washington’s ongoing commitment to maritime security, countering Iranian threats, and strengthening alliances in Europe and the Gulf amid heightened tensions in West Asia.
