Naqoura, Lebanon: A rocket struck the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) headquarters on Tuesday afternoon, setting fire to a vehicle workshop.

Fortunately, UN peacekeepers were not in their bunkers at the time of the attack. Some sustained minor injuries, but fortunately, no serious injuries were reported, said UNIFIL.

"This afternoon a rocket hit UNIFIL’s headquarters in Naqoura, setting a vehicle workshop on fire. Peacekeepers were not in bunkers at the time. While some peacekeepers suffered minor injuries, fortunately no one was seriously injured...," it said in a statement.

The rocket is believed to have been fired from the north of the UNIFIL headquarters, likely by Hezbollah or an affiliated group. An investigation into the incident has been launched.

UNIFIL issued a stern reminder to Hezbollah and all involved parties regarding their obligations to protect UN personnel and property. The organization stated that any deliberate attack on UN forces constitutes a serious breach of international humanitarian law and violates UN Security Council Resolution 1701.

This incident underscores the critical need for all actors in the region to uphold their commitments to ensure the safety and security of peacekeeping missions.
