Stockholm: In a dramatic turn of events, Sweden’s newly appointed Health Minister, Elisabet Lann, collapsed during a live press conference on Tuesday, just days after assuming office. The incident, which was captured on camera, showed Lann toppling the podium before falling to the floor, as officials and aides rushed to assist her.

Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson and Deputy Prime Minister Ebba Busch quickly intervened, with staff placing Lann in the recovery position before she was escorted out of the room. The press conference was cancelled in the aftermath of the scare.

Later in the day, Lann returned to address the media, reassuring the public that the episode was triggered by low blood sugar (hypoglycemia). “I am feeling better now,” she said, adding that there was no cause for concern.

Who is Elisabet Lann?
Elisabet Lann recently succeeded Acko Ankarberg Johansson as Health Minister, following the latter’s resignation. Before her appointment, she was a municipal councillor in Gothenburg and played a key role in the investigation exploring the possibility of fully nationalising Sweden’s healthcare system.
