Dubai flight disruptions: India-bound flights delayed, multiple services cancelled

Dubai: Passengers travelling between India and the UAE faced significant flight disruptions on Wednesday, September 23 with several SpiceJet services delayed by hours and multiple flights cancelled. Services from Dubai to Kochi and Kozhikode were among those affected.

SpiceJet flight SG5153 from Dubai to Kozhikode, which was scheduled to depart at noon, was revised to 8.25 pm. Another Dubai-Kochi service, SG5117, was pushed from its scheduled 3.40 pm departure to 11.55 pm.

Several SpiceJet services to Indian cities, including Kozhikode, Jaipur and Delhi, were also listed as cancelled. Some flights appeared in both cancellation and delay listings, making it important for passengers to check their individual flight status before heading to the airport.

The disruption also affected flights travelling from India to Dubai. SpiceJet flight SG5118 from Kochi, scheduled to reach Dubai at 3.15 am, was delayed until 11.47 am. Flight SG5060 from Mumbai was pushed back from 11 am to 7.25 pm.

Other international flights affected

The disruption was not limited to India-UAE routes. Several services connecting Dubai and Abu Dhabi with other international destinations were also affected.

At Dubai World Central, flight TBZ6608 to Tehran, scheduled to depart at noon, was cancelled. Its inbound service, TBZ6607 from Tehran, was also listed as cancelled.

In Abu Dhabi, Oman Air flight WY636 to Muscat was cancelled, while its inbound service WY635 from Muscat was also affected. Other disrupted services included flights involving Cairo, Riyadh, Kathmandu and Tbilisi.

What passengers should check

With flight timings and operational status changing, passengers travelling from Dubai, Abu Dhabi or other affected airports should check the latest status of their specific flight with the airline or airport before leaving for the airport.

The disruption could mean significant changes to departure and arrival times, while some passengers may need to make alternative travel arrangements if their service has been cancelled.

The latest disruption affects both India-bound and India-originating services, showing that the impact is not restricted to passengers flying from Dubai to India. International routes beyond the UAE have also reported cancellations and delays.

For passengers, the most important distinction is between a delayed flight and a cancelled service. A delayed flight may receive a revised departure time, while a cancellation requires passengers to follow the airline’s rebooking or refund process. Because flight schedules can change during the day, the status shown earlier may not remain valid later.
