South Korean President Lee Jae Myung to visit India for key talks with PM Modi

Seoul: South Korean President Lee Jae Myung will visit India from April 19 to 21 for his first official trip to the country, where he will hold talks with Prime Minister Narendra Modi aimed at strengthening bilateral cooperation across key sectors.

The Ministry of External Affairs said the visit will focus on expanding collaboration in trade, investments, shipbuilding, semiconductors, artificial intelligence, critical technologies and people-to-people ties. Regional and global issues are also expected to be part of the discussions.

Lee will be accompanied by First Lady Kim Hea Kyung and a high-level delegation including ministers, senior officials and business leaders, highlighting the economic and strategic importance of the visit.

During the visit, President Lee will also meet President Droupadi Murmu and External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar, alongside his talks with PM Modi.

According to South Korean National Security Adviser Wi Sung-rak, the visit is expected to strengthen Seoul’s engagement with the Global South, with India seen as a key partner in the region.

Both sides are also expected to work towards advancing negotiations under the India–Korea Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement, with a long-term goal of reaching $50 billion in bilateral trade by 2030.

The visit comes as India and South Korea seek to deepen their special strategic partnership and explore new opportunities in emerging technologies and industrial cooperation.
